Vipassana means insight and seeing. Insight into your true nature.
Who you really are comes to light. This light is your true nature.
Vipassana awakens this. But also all the clutter that is stuck.
Naropa’s approach to vipassana is not heavy or serious.
The observation of breathing or thoughts has given way to merging with the breathing.
Through this, love awakens. Love is the manifestation of consciousness.
It is coming home and staying home. It takes you from duality to being, and from being to non-being.
Integration plays an important role. Meditation is not something that takes place outside of life, but rather something that is completely connected to it.
Combined with the Gayatri Mantra, walking meditations and daily sharings with Naropa, this retreat forms a powerful path to awakening.
During the retreat, we remain in complete silence. Therefore, we do not use phones, books, writing materials or other distractions during these days. Everything is aimed at turning inward, so that you can meet yourself in a direct and unfiltered way.

No, you do not need any specific meditation experience to participate. However, Naropa recommends practicing seated meditation daily in the weeks leading up to the retreat, so that you can become more familiar with sitting and turning inward.
A retreat day usually starts at 07:30 and ends around 21:30. The daily schedule includes several periods of seated meditation (between 45 and 60 minutes), walking meditation, Gayatri Mantra, three meals a day, evening sharing, and seva.
Seva means selfless service. Everyone contributes during the retreat and is assigned a specific task, such as making coffee, vacuuming, or serving food. Upon arrival, you will be informed which seva task has been assigned to you.
On the arrival day, check-in is at 17:00 and the opening session starts at 20:00. The retreat ends on the departure day at around 17:00.
All meals during the retreat are vegetarian. Some dishes are vegan, lactose-free, or gluten-free. Unfortunately, we are unable to accommodate general dietary preferences or personal adjustments.
Mild Allergy or Intolerance
Do you have a mild allergy or intolerance? We ask you to take this into account yourself. The cooks will indicate which of the 14 legally recognized allergens are present in the dishes. Any allergies or intolerances outside this list that have been communicated in advance will also be indicated. This allows you to choose which dishes you can or cannot eat.
Severe Allergy, Intolerance, or Medical Diet
Do you have a severe allergy or need a specific diet for medical reasons? Please indicate this when registering. We will contact you to discuss what may be possible. If we are able to approve your request, an additional fee of €25 per retreat will apply.
Vegan Diet
A fully vegan diet is not possible at every retreat. Sometimes we work with a Vedic cook who uses ghee in all dishes. If this is the case, it will be stated in the retreat information in the calendar.
There are sufficient chairs and some meditation cushions available. If you would like to use a meditation stool, you will need to bring your own. We also recommend bringing your own meditation cushion and a blanket.
Approximately three weeks before the retreat, you will receive an email with all the practical information, including arrival times, accommodation, what to bring, the final daily schedule, the location, and more.
The practical announcements, guidance and sharings during Dutch retreats are in Dutch. Although the transmission is wordlesss, please contact us beforehand if you do not speak Dutch to discuss whether the retreat is suitable for you.
